Who We Are
Our Story
In October 2021, our family decided to offer a new service in Leaside, the neighbourhood where we grew up. Using our unique strengths from various educational backgrounds, we sought to create an energetic and safe environment for our favourite neighbours - the dogs!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Scarlett, our beagle, joined the family. Like many families, we considered where we would take her on our busy days. We wanted a stimulating and clean daycare that was nearby and took care of her as we would at home. The idea of KYON (Kee-on) Dog Daycare was born. As an homage to our roots, we chose to name our business "KYON" which is the ancient Greek word for 'dog', and in Greek mythology, Kyon Khryseos, the 'golden dog', protected the infant Zeus.
The Owners
Since Spring 2023, sisters Mariah and Sophia have sparked a new era at KYON as its sole owners. They introduced new ideas and leveled-up the dog-care experience, while maintaining the core values that define this small but successful family business.
Beyond their love for dogs, what truly sets this duo apart is their exceptional dedication and skillset.
Mariah, with a Master’s in Architecture, has an eye for detail, focus on personalization, and expertise in design. She manages the daycare’s e-mails, website, creates advertising content, and develops marketing strategies for the business to grow. On the other hand, Sophia is meticulous and focused, drawing from her disciplined cadet corps background, and highly-regarded communications degree. She oversees the day-to-day operations, directly interacting with the dogs, staff, and clients, ensuring a seamless experience for all.
The love, care, and inspiration that began with the entire family now continue through the commitment of these two sisters.
